Precision feeding of pigs for further reducing emissions and improving animal health
(PFP 2.0)

Projecttitel: Precision feeding of pigs for further reducing emissions and improving animal health (PFP 2.0)
Projectnummer: LWV19050
Missie: Klimaatneutrale landbouw en voedselproductie
MMIP: B1 - Emissiereductie methaan veehouderij
Looptijd: 2020 – 2023
Projectleider: Alfons Jansman

The proposal focusses on the development of improved precision feeding concepts and systems for growing-finishing pigs with regard to protein and amino acids, by considering genotypic information of animals, information of the immediate environment/climate of pigs and the on line growth responses to intake of feed and nutrients in an integrative approach.
This approach is innovative due to the combination of different factors which are taken into account, making progress in the further reduction of dietary protein levels for pigs and the fine tuning of dietary amino acid provision with the actual requirements of the animal for these nutrients truly realistic.
Via the application of the proposed concept is expected that N-excretion from the growing-finishing pigs can be reduced by 15-20% relative to the current N-excretion within a period of five years after completion of the project.
In addition, this approach can contribute to further improvement of health of pigs and contributes to improvement of use of protein resources for feed and of the sustainability of pig production.
