Breeding improved varieties to valorise hemp fibres for biobased materials
Hemp fibres are highly appreciated for application in biobased materials. However, the bast fibre quality and sowing seed production of current hemp varieties is often hampered by crop-heterogeneity due to instability of monoecy. Here we propose to determine the effect of genetic- and environmental factors on monoecy and develop molecular tools to breed robust and homogeneous hemp varieties to increase the supply and quality of hemp bast fibres for use in biobased building materials and textiles
