Samenvatting

The aim of DISAC is to improve the economic and ecological sustainability of Dutch agri-food chains through the introduction of innovative technologies (IoT, sensors, data analytics, GIS platforms and dashboards). DISAC is a R&D 4-year public-private project (PPP) with several use cases contributing to development of digital farming and better crop and chain management with (near) real-time and object-specific data, innovative data infrastructures and analytics. DISAC has three subprojects: N-Sensing, E-Pieper and Connectivity. DISAC is short for Data Intensive Smart Agrifood Chains. The project contributes to: (1) higher yields and / or quality of products, (2) less use of energy, water and agro-chemicals, (3) less environmental impact and better mineral utilization, (4) more efficient and transparent chains, and ( 5) new products and services that can be deployed nationally and internationally.

Doel van het project

DISAC is an ST1 project. It contributes to: (1) the development and validation of sensors for crop and weed monitoring including detection algorithms, (2) development and validation of decision support for smart farming applications in arable and forage farming, (3) better understanding and improvement of connectivity and interoperability at farm level, and (4) new dashboards and recommendations for farmers to produce smarter.
The results of DISAC will contribute to higher level objectives: (1) higher yields and / or quality of products, (2) less use of energy, water and agro-chemicals, (3) less environmental impact and better mineral utilization, (4) more efficient and transparent chains, and ( 5) new products and services that can be deployed nationally and internationally.

Relatie met missie (Motivatie)

DISAC is an ST1 project. ST1 asks for innovations on sensors, decision support, IoT and smart data use.
Results can be used in other MMIP focusing on climate smart, circular and nature inclusive farming of field crops. These MMIPs are A1, A2, A5, B1, B2, C2 and C4.

Geplande acties

The summary of the deliverables of the three subprojects of DISAC project, are:
(1) the development and validation of sensors for crop and weed monitoring,
(2) development and validation of algorithms for biomass indices and weeds,
(3) development and validation of decision support for nitrogen application, crop protection and weed control in arable and forage farming,
(4) better understanding and improvement of connectivity and interoperability at farm level, and (5) new dashboards and recommendations for farmers to produce smarter.
Each of the three subprojects in DISAC delivered specific deliverables on the aforementioned topics. They will be mentioned in section 4. This will be final results of DISAC. Intermediate results were given in previous progress reports.
1. N-Sensing sub-project had 4 sub-topics: Sensing (optical nitrate sensor, LIPS sensor, and hyperspectral remote sensor) and GrasSignal decision support.
2. E-Pieper sub-project focused on the potato production dashboard.
3. Connectivity Arable sub-project had one use case: detection of Thistle plans in arable crop and demonstration of use in Thistle spot spraying and ontology for data use in crop protection applications.
4. Connectivity grass sub-project focused on development of dosing algoithms for variable rate application of Nitrogen on Grassland and on farm use of data for smart fertilizer application.
