The project aims to better understand the impact of dietary fats on human health mediated through the microbiome with a focus on the small intestine. In silico predictive modelling, combined with in vitro models and a proof-of-concept human challenge study will be applied to characterize the capacity of the human microbiome to utilize or transform dietary fats into bioactive molecules. Integrated data analyses will result in a human trial to validate microbiome-driven benefits on human health.
