“Towards broad and sustainable geminivirus resistance: Novel tomato resistance genes and their associated mechanisms”
Geminiviruses are fast evolving and infect multiple crops causing dramatic yield losses worldwide. In this project, we aim to apply advanced molecular biotechnologies to clone & characterize novel tomato genes and study their associated mechanisms for resistance to geminiviruses. The genes, markers, plant materials and knowledge obtained in this project can be used to breed tomatoes (& likely other crops) with broad-spectrum and sustainable resistance against geminiviruses.
