Visual Analytics for Plant Pangenomes
To develop the crops of the future, plant breeding companies need efficient tools to assess and use genetic diversity in their crop varieties. Where traditional genome sequences fall to represent genetic variation, innovative pangeome data structures do incorporate this variation and thus pave the way for the efficient analysis of crop data. Plant breeding companies therefor wish to invest in the development of this novel technology towards real plant-breeding applications.
This project will deliver a visual analytics toolkit for a state-of-the art pangenome approach, called PanTools, which will enable plant breeders to interactively view and analyze genetic variation in their crops. A design study will be performed, targeting the analysis of both small-scale variation (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and large-scale genome rearrangements (e.g. inversions).
