Tospoviruses are a threat of crops due to their extensive host range and worldwide distribution. They have devastating effects on plants with losses of +100 M€/y. These viruses are transmitted by thrips. Control of thrips with insecticides has poor efficacy, while these chemicals contaminate our ecosystem, thereby exerting a negative impact on our biodiversity. To tackle this societal and economical challenge, this integrated program studies virus, plant, and vector to uncover mechanisms that allow breeders to screen for variation in plants.
